SomArray Prostate
Prostate Cancer

I choose SomArray Prostate

With SomArray Prostate we focus on the 12 genes and 4 proteins that have the most frequent genetic instability in prostate cancer.

Consult your Oncologist in order to get the best possible choice for you and a personalized treatment. Further personalization of the examinations is possible.

If your sample is not already in microDiagnostics Ltd. Contact us to arrange for safe and fast shipping to our laboratory.

You will also need to complete the Consent Form easily and quickly.

The number and type of mutations examined are updated through a dynamic process according to current scientific research. It should therefore be considered the possibility that the list of genes in the order form may have changed (genes added or removed) while analyzing the sample in the laboratory.

What is the clinical utility of SomArray Prostate?

By analyzing many genes and proteins at the same time, this test offers a detailed molecular profile of prostate cancer, on the basis of which your oncologist will choose the optimal treatment for you individually.

The indications for performing SomArray Prostate are:

  • Assessing the likelihood of a man carrying mutations in genes associated with Lynch syndrome. Patients with Lynch syndrome have an increased chance of developing cancers such as breast, ovarian, prostate, pancreas, colon, endometrial, liver, kidney, bile ducts.
  • Low risk patients with localized prostate cancer who have a family history of prostate cancer or histological examination with an indicative morphology of the cancer’s test (intraductal carcinoma)
  • Intermediate risk patients with localized prostate cancer who have a family history of prostate cancer or histological examination with an indicative morphology of the cancer’s test (intraductal carcinoma)
  • High or very high risk patient with advanced prostate cancer.

What sample is needed and how SomArray Prostate is conducted in microDiagnostics Ltd?

The SomArray Prostate is conducted on the biopsy material (paraffin block) or the radical prostatectomy specimen (paraffin block) on which your histology examination has been conducted.

One touch approach – Strategic Sample Management, Time Saving

At our vertically integrated Laboratory, we handle your sample in such a way as to minimize its unnecessary waste:

  • The paraffin block is inserted if it is possible once in the microtome to obtain tissue incisions by experienced histotechnologists.
  • Tissue sections are sequentially acquired in such way as to provide immunohistochemistry testing, if required.
  • Ensure maintenance of tissue sections for further molecular testing.
  • Pathologists perform microdissection, in order to ensure the highest possible amount of cancer cells, removing all other necrotic cells or normal tissue that could affect the validity of the results.
  • Directly, the molecular biologist treats the tissue in a completely controlled environment with next generation sequencing (NGS), or polymerase chain reaction of real time (Real – time PCR) for the detection of mutations in genes of interest.

What treatments are available for prostate cancer?

Depending on the case, there are various treatment options, each of which has benefits, risks and contraindications. These treatments are:

  • Active monitoring
  • Surgery (radical prostatectomy)
  • Radiotherapy (external or brachytherapy)
  • Cryotherapy (cryosurgery)
  • Hormonal therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Treatments for bone metastases
  • Vaccination
  • High Frequency Ultrasound Treatment
